Powdery Mold Growth

Before and after of wood framing with powdery mold growth. This demonstrates why we use hepa filtration vacuuming to remove mold spores before sanitizing the affected materials with antimicrobials.

The first stage is to HEPA vacuum the surface of the impacted materials. A HEPA vacuum is outfitted with several filters including a HEPA ( High Efficiency Particulate Absorbing) filter. The HEPA vacuum will keep the mold spores from becoming airborne and we will remove as much mold as possible.

The next step will be to physically scrub the structural materials to remove all mold growth. The cleaning products that are used may be specified by the Mold Assessment Consultant in the Protocol, or it may be a product that is a preferred product of the contractor. Hyphae from the mold can penetrate the structural materials and may need to be sanded or removed with a wire brush. Sometimes more invasive methods are used such as dry ice or media blasting.

Once all of the structural materials have been cleaned, the final cleaning will be performed. Check in for the next step in the process.
