Mistakes Homeowners Make
I recently asked our crew members, who have responded to unlimited amounts of fire and water jobs, what the biggest make they have seen homeowners make, and how that impacts the extent of the damage.
Some of the responses I got were things that I never would have thought of. But here are some tips for homeowners to use!
- When going on vacation, turn off your water. Some of the most extensive damage our guys have seen has been from homeowners being gone for a few days and their water running the entire time. This makes the extent of the damage worse due to the length of time.
- Do not place your A/C or hot water heater in the attic. When these have a malfunction and burst, it causes the water to run through the entire attic and into the remainder of the house, causing a great deal more damage than if the appliances were in the bottom floor of the home.
- Another big mistakes homeowners make is not calling a restoration company quickly. The longer the water is in the home, and the longer the materials stay wet, the more severe the damage is going to be.
- Lastly, the biggest mistake our crew members mentioned was homeowners who decide to do it themselves. In this day of DIY popularity, everyone wants to jump on board and attempt to handle the restoration themselves. However, this can sometimes do more harm than good. When it comes to your home, let the professionals handle it.
